Maintaining the Visitor Route
Learn about how we care for the collection items you see on your journey around Chatsworth House.
Garden sculpture clean programme
The sculptures throughout Chatsworth's gardens are carefully cleaned and their condition monitored.
Annual silver clean programme
The Devonshire Collections include many pieces of silver, an essential aspect of entertaining and display in an 18th and 19th-century country house.
Clock winding
Clock winding is quite a large undertaking at Chatsworth. There are 56 clocks kept in working order throughout the house, and eighteen of them can be seen on the visitor route.
Case covers
Each winter when the second floor closes to the public, the State Rooms undergo a 'deep clean' programme.
Collections photography
Photography is carried out on all pieces of the collection not only for posterity and to provide images that can be licensed, but for research as well.
