We believe that Chatsworth has a positive impact on its local economy. To maximise this local economic benefit, we aim to buy at least 50% of our supplies and services locally. We define ‘local’ as any business which is less than 30 miles away by road.
Progress is measured annually in a comprehensive supply chain assessment. This looks at every single supplier of goods and services used by the Devonshire Group during the previous financial year. By looking at the amount spent with them and their distance from our sites, we calculate the proportion of money spent within the local economy.
In 2020/21, across the Devonshire Group, 48.3% of spend was with businesses located less than 30 miles from our sites. This means we spent £9.2 million with local suppliers and services.
The proportion of local increased slightly from the previous year, in which local spending stood at 47.4%.
Now in our third year of measurement, this expanding dataset is being used to inform decision-making and analyse long-term trends. With it, we hope to exceed 50% and increase our contribution to our local economies.
